Assistant Purchasing Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies, tracking metrics to reduce expenses, negotiating deals, managing product lifecycle and store merchandising.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing purchasing strategies to optimize cost, quality and delivery performance
  • Collaborate with Purchasing Manager to lead supplier selection, negotiation and contract management process
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Vendors and Suppliers
  • Manage procurement activities for assigned categories or projects ensuring compliance with Company policies and procedures
  • Curating the product assortment for the assigned category, considering factors such as Customer preferences, market trends and sales data
  • Analyze sales data, market trends and customer feedback to make informed decisions on assortments, pricing, promotions and inventory management
  • Work closely with cross functional teams including marketing, sales and warehousing to ensure alignment and achieve company objectives
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to purchasing team members, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous learning
  • Keep abreast of the market place activity and innovations


Qualification & Requirements 

  • First Degree in Business Management, Supply Chain or related discipline.
  • Minimum five (5) year’s work experience in International Procurement preferably in the retail industry with at least two (2) years in a Managerial capacity.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to analyze and interpret inventory movement
  • Leadership and team building skills
  • Highly confidential, excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact and communicate comfortably with all levels of the organization.
  • Very proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
